Beginning Baltic Yachts

Baltic Yachts: The Yard

Baltic Yachts Ltd is located in the village of Bosund on the west coast of Finland, and is currently building a new waterfront production factory in Pietarsaari/Jakobstad, which will be ready Autumn 2008.

Baltic possesses both the facilities and the organization to build yachts up to and over the 200-foot range. The yard owns a modular oven for curing hulls and decks and a unique press with an integrated oven for laminating bulkheads, etc. Completed yachts and keels float above the floor on special easily maneuverable air cushion cradles. Baltic's experience is that most projects which are considered to be impossible are, in fact, achievable.

Integrated system software makes it possible to analyze any design and construction possibility, to find information on weights, center of gravity inertia or costs, updating them simultaneously.

All material handling is performed by means of versatile cranes and trucks. A specialty is the use of hovering gear for moving heavy loads like keels and even whole boats. A special air-cushion cradle enables installation of the keel by just one or two workers.

Baltic uses a special laminating machine with an integrated oven for laminating bulkheads and other panels. The result is a very compact laminate that is not only extremely stiff and strong, but also exceptionally light thanks to reduced amounts of resin. The modular oven post-cures laminates in temperatures up to 90°C. It can house hulls and decks or the plugs for the same. It can be erected in different sizes and shapes, in order to fit the dimensions of the body to be cured. This enormous "baking" oven can be easily moved from one hall to the other and offers an easily controllable and stable curing process.
